Brass Is Back and It’s Here to Stay

VCHalcyon Sconce in Antique-Burnished Brass and Quartz with Antique-Burnished Brass ShadeWM_KW2092ABQ

The Halcyon sconce from Visual Comfort in antique-burnished brass and quartz.

That’s right, brass is back. It has been for a few years now, so it’s safe to say that brass is going to stick around for a while. As with most trends, it’s back with a twist–an update on the old standard that looks fresh and classy. The brass trend is the definition of transitional: it has that classic look and feel, but with a modern sensibility. This 21st century brass revival is simply beautiful, and we’re happy to welcome its warm tone back into our homes.

Here are some examples from our lighting lines.

The Lynden pendant from Hudson Valley in aged brass.

The Dixon table lamp in hand-rubbed antique brass from Visual Comfort.

Jonathan Addler RA Rio

From Robert Abbey, the Jonathan Adler Rio chandelier in antique brass.

We started to see gold tones gaining popularity a few years back. First, we saw it popping up in jewelry and other accessories, like gold flats, sandals, and even gold nail polish. Then the trend moved into home decor. You may have noticed brass bathroom fixtures like faucets and shower heads and gold toned flatware popping up at your favorite home stores. Now brass is everywhere, and we love it, especially as a handsome finish option from our favorite lighting lines.

By any other name…

The brass we’re seeing today comes by a few names and variations. You can find it being called any of the following names plus many more. Antique Brass, Burnished Brass, Antique Gold, Burnished Gold, Aged Brass, Vintage Brass, and the list goes on.
